Sports Day- OORJA 2011

It was an unprecedented affair of a kind at The Heritage School, Rohini, wherein all students of class IV to XII participated in the annual event- OORJA 2011 on 5^th November.

’Oorja’ the term itself symbolizes energy in every form, whether it is a child running, a flower swaying or a person meditating. It also signifies honour, harmony, oneness and passion that has driven us since eons. And the same extravagance and detailing was visible everywhere on the grounds of the school. The true sportsman spirit and the zeal to outshine was witnessed in our budding sports stars.

The Sports Day- Oorja2011 was an event that involved a great amount of preparation, in-depth thought and co-ordination. From the beginning of the concept till the closure, every step was important and uniquely indigenous. The school decided to have our very own talisman – The turtle- stating the ideology of steadfastness and tranquility while carrying the world on its shoulders in complete modesty.

The event kickstarted with the lighting of the torch by our respected Principal Ms. Nina Kaul , followed by inviting our honourable Chairman Sir, Mr. N.C. Jain to unfurl the flag. Thereon, as the Sports Captain, Devika Rajpal and Sports Vice Captain, Pratham Aggarwal ran around the sport field holding the torch to finally light the flame, the arrangements and aesthetically decorated ground was worth appreciating while the guest were enjoying the cool morning rays of the winter sun.

Suddenly, alering was the beats of the drums along with smartly turned out students from classes VIII to XII moved in sync to commence the beautiful day’s event. The six squads adorned six colors of rainbow symbolizing the values and philosophy of Heritage Dharma. It was a commendable display of discipline, co-ordination and order. The six squads took the oath to play and compete in complete fairness in the true sportsman spirit.

The next was the mesmerizing welcome ceremony initiated with a wondrous dance performance on the ceremonial music fused with a medley of classical, jazz and peppered with a flavour of folk. The compelling effect was music along with the dance was created by the Heritage student’s orchestra group.

The audience was then given in to view the spell-bound drills. The first one was a dramatic Tae-Kwon-Do, a Korean martial art which has gained immense popularity and momentum as a form of self defense and exercise for the young generation. Immediately followed was class IV demonstrating group co-ordination using Dumbles and Class V providing a breath-taking colourful formation along with feet-tapping music beats.

The poise and discipline that Yoga as a form of exercise and meditation is immensely beneficial. The parents and students who viewed the drill at the grounds on this day were testimony to the enthralling show of asanas, the spiritual and peaceful effect of the same.

Post the drill, a break was provided to both students and parents to gear up for the track and field events. The fun and frolic of the day continued on as the excited students began the racing events. The thunderous cheering and applauding by parents and students echoed all around, pumping the adrenaline levels of the participants. The thrill of having won was not the only thing of importance; the enthusiasm of the participants was worth viewing too.

The parents seated patiently illustrated their zeal to see their wards perform and this added great charm to the occasion as they never dithered, supportive all the way. Finally, the track and field event was coming to a close and the students of the Pyramid formation began to prepare themselves in great earnestness. The formation and the delicate balancing by the young boys of grades 6, 7 and 12 was magnificent and spellbinding for it requird increasing amount of skill, strength both in mind and body. The second last drill - Aerobics was to enhance the energy and liveliness of the day coming to its joyous end. The girls of classes 8, 9, 10 and 11 gave a rollicking show of grace and oorja at its best with their vigourous aerobic dance moves. It almost seemed the fun at had just begun.

The Closing Ceremony was an exihilarating celebration of team spirit, stamina, patience and discipline as it gave a purview of the beginning of the theme – Oorja and very onset of it into the universe. Alas, the day came to end with a high on this note “We came, you saw, some conquered but all left as winners today” and thank you note to all who had worked and participated to make the event a success.

Class IV - C: Morning Assembly Activity

Cleanliness is the absence of dirt or undesirable substances which include rubbish, dust, stains and whatever else! Cleanliness talks about something being clean and it can’t be done with individual’s effort. Each one of us is equally responsible.

Taking this theme the children of class IV C presented their assembly on 15^th, 16^th and 17^th November, 2011.

15^th Nov, 2011

Day 1

The assembly started with the discussion between the two aliens from Wobly Dobly planet that on their planet nobody takes care about cleanliness.

To see what happens on earth they moved to the earth. There they saw in the jungle that even animals are littering around everywhere. Then a magician came and said that whosoever litters around will get the horns.

16^th Nov, 2011

Day 2

The next day every animal got the horns. So the magicians said that it is the work of everyone.

The message was that we should together make efforts in making our surroundings clean.

17^th Nov, 2011

Day 3

Children presented a beautiful Qawwali starting with the introduction about “What is Qawwali”.

The Qawwali included the events that happen during the whole session of Class IV.

Visit By Gargi College Students

Society continues to be in transmission, given the process of communication that drives us. We live in a community by virtue of the aims, beliefs, aspirations, knowledge-a common understanding that we develop over time. An important goal of education is this transmission of values and traditions over generations. Such things cannot be passed physically from one to another, like bricks. The communication which insures participation in a common understanding is one which develops similar and newer emotional and intellectual dispositions; like ways of responding to expectations and requirements. Hence, a school shoulders an important responsibility of co-creating meaning through community involvement, participation and education. One such important endeavour of the school is to welcome the future teachers of our society, the current B.El.Ed students to observe how schools function and how children learn. As a part of their B.El.Ed program project, The Gargi college teachers approached our school for a deeper understanding of educational practices in a progressive school, and were facilitated by the school through a range of experiences such as exploring the school infrastructure through a guided tour, enabling understanding of how the infrastructure becomes an important part of the curriculum, observing classroom teaching across classes Preschool through III, observing the teachers' reflection and planning time, etc. Each day would conclude with a reflection time for these students.

Children were playing a shopping game in which two children were acting as shopkeepers and the other two were customers. Children enjoyed exchanging and counting money to buy toys for themselves.
